Denied claims / Metal roof

Metal roof claim denied?

Metal roofs get denied for one reason more than any other: "cosmetic damage." Hail dents a metal roof without making a hole, and many policies don't pay for dents alone. But dents aren't always the whole story.

Why metal roof claims get denied

These are the denial reasons we see most on standing seam and exposed-fastener metal roofs.

"Cosmetic damage only"

The adjuster agrees there are hail dents, but says they don't affect how the roof works, and your policy excludes cosmetic damage.

What we do: First, read your policy. Not every policy has a cosmetic exclusion. Then we look for what's functional: cracked paint and coating, dented seams and laps, and damage that lets water in.

"No damage to the panels"

On ribbed panels and lighter hail, the dents are hard to see from the ground or in flat light.

What we do: We chalk and photograph dents in low-angle light so they show up, and measure them on the panels, trim, vents and gutters.

"Loose fasteners are maintenance"

Backed-out screws and worn washers on exposed-fastener roofs get blamed on age.

What we do: Wind flexes panels and works fasteners loose. We document the pattern, which side of the roof it's on, and how it lines up with the storm.

"Wind damage is pre-existing"

Lifted panels, bent trim and torn seams get called old damage or bad installation.

What we do: We show fresh bends, torn fasteners and displaced trim, and tie them to wind reports for that date and location.

What we look for

Photos from our own inspections. This is the kind of documentation that supports a re-inspection. Results vary; no claim outcome is guaranteed.

What we do

A denial letter is the insurer's first answer, not always the final one.

Send us your denial letter

Text a photo of the letter and your roof, or upload them on our contact form. We'll tell you what we see and what your options are.

We re-inspect and document

We go over the whole roof and build a report with photos, measurements and weather data that ties the damage to the storm.

You decide your next step

Depending on your policy, your options may include a re-inspection with the adjuster, a supplement, or the appraisal clause. We inspect, document and write the repair scope, and meet the adjuster on the construction scope. SkyView Restoration Group is not a public adjuster or law firm. You may hire any licensed public adjuster or attorney, or none.

Got a denial letter?

Send it to us with a few photos of your roof. A real person on our team will look it over and tell you where you stand. Asking is free. If you later sign a Project Agreement, its fee and cancellation terms are at SkyViewRestore.com/terms.
